I trained at Pershore Horticultural College in Worcestershire in 2000 and have been designing gardens all around Herefordshire and Worcestershire for many years, from cottage gardens to courtyards to gardens for grand country houses. A lifestyle change and a move to Cornwall in 2018 has inspired me with new designs and planting plans to work beautifully with coastal gardens.
One of the comments I often hear from my clients is that I really 'listen' to them and respond with designs that show I have understood their tastes and aspirations, how they intend to use the space and their lifestyle choices. I believe that time spent in the first stage of the design process, taking a detailed brief and sharing images and interest boards is crucial to a successful final design.
Your garden does not have to be grand to deserve some professional attention, in fact one might argue that the smaller the space, the more critical it is that it works for you. I was first inspired to train as a garden designer after having my own tiny cottage courtyard designed - seeing its potential unlocked and discovering a space that I wanted to spend time in helped me to realise the benefit of employing an experienced garden designer.
I would be delighted to arrange an initial on site meeting to discuss what you might be considering, to talk you through the design process and to show you some of my work.
There is no charge for this initial meeting, following which I will be in a position to give you an estimate of my fees.
Outdoor spaces enrich our lives - whether it's a family garden designed with children in mind, a garden designed to attract birds and wildlife or a 'garden room' in which to escape, relax or entertain.
The benefits of our gardens to our mental health have been well documented over the years and can play a key role in helping to fight depression, stress & anxiety and to lower blood pressure. For those with physical limitations resulting from restricted mobility or visual impairment gardens can be designed to allow for access to all to include features to meet any special need.
Many of us have wasted money on plants that die and garden features that just don't work so a cohesive design using planting and features that complement one another can work wonders. There's a lot more to beautiful borders than picking your favourite plants and putting them together in a bed. Professional planting plans not only consider soil type and garden aspect but must also take account of seasons of interest, colours, shapes, textures and sizes of leaves and flowers as well as ultimate size and spread of each plant.
A professional garden designer can add that ‘wow’ factor to your garden, designed to precisely meet with your lifestyle and personal taste.
What’s more, if and when you come to sell your home, a professionally designed garden has been shown to add up to 20% to the value of your home so it can prove to be a sound investment .
